|BE YOUR OWN BOSS IN AS LITTLE AS TWO WEEKS
Go to local campgrounds and RV parks in your area and introduce
yourself to the park manager, ask if you can have "permission" to
leave a few of your business cards in the office or laundry room to
promote your new business. I have never had a refusal from anyone
as long as I use the phrase "with your permission". They love to have
you come and perform services for their customers in the RV parks
and Mobile home parks.
No inventory is need or required. You order what you need when you
have a confirmed order. Call us for all your parts needs.
When the customer calls, fill out our special work order sheet. Gather
all the pertinent information and make an appointment to go measure
his RV Awning Fabric. Explain to the customer there is no obligation
and your estimate is FREE. Normally for the customer to get a free
estimate from a dealer, they have to drive the RV to the dealer and
then return back home. Your advantage is that YOU GO TO THE
CUSTOMER. The customer loves and appreciates this!
When you take the measurements, only measure the distance from
one arm (upright support) to the other arm. If the distance from the
center of one arm to the other arm is 18 ft., then the Fabric is always
going to be 17' 1", allowing for spring assemblies. You will order an
18' awning fabric.
I generally take a $50.00 deposit on all orders where I have to special
order a Fabric. The customer understands this and is always willing to
furnish a reasonable deposit. Make sure your invoice shows the
deposit and exactly what you are going to do for the customer. Make
sure to write the color, length, price of the Fabric and the price for
labor, and show the customers deposit. Tell the customer you will call
when the Fabric arrives and set up an appointment to install the new
Fabric to his RV.
SLIDETOPPER AWNING FABRICS
Many RV's have slide out room additions which can be extended
when they park. These room extensions are called slideouts. The
awnings that are mounted to them retract and extend automatically
when they are activated. The awnings attached to them are generally
made of a poor quality Fabric material which lasts about 3-5 years
with a little luck.
Replacing these slidetopper fabrics is the simplest and most profitable
of any awning job you will do. The labor is about 30 minutes with help
from our DVD. You buy the Fabric from us or a local supplier.
Almost all of my advertising has been done in the weekly (not daily)
newspapers, penny savers, thrifty nickel, or any of the free papers
handed out to everyone. Our early years in this business found us
spending hundreds of dollars monthly for daily newspaper ads. Forget
it. If you run one of the three following adds, you will get calls for new
business! Run these ads in the RV section or misc. sections only.
I give the customer a choice of 7 color combinations for replacement
fabrics. Custom orders for fabrics are possible but always end up with
some sort of delay on delivery. You want to sell at a great price, offer a
great product and not have to spend hours deciding on a color. There
may be times a customer is trying to match the awning fabric to existing
window awnings and you can then special order a specific color to
meet the customer requirements. Again he will pay more for special
order but will become a satisified customer.
